Herbs whether they are from the West or from the East are direct gifts from the Creator.

Do You Think The Powers Above Would Allow Us To Come To This

Place Called Earth Without An Herb For Every Disease That

Man Could Clone Within Themselves?

Absolutely Not......

Herbs are food and as such there job is to nourish and replenish the body. Every herb has major properties and minor properties.

If a formula is prepared properly it would consist of a calming herb, cleansing herb, building herb and a catalyst herb that will help to drive all these herbs into the body to go to the source of the problem. Many times what happens is, we go off to the health food store and we buy one bottle, say Saw Palmetto because we have a prostrate problem. You may find relief, however an herbal formula working synergistically prepared by a knowledgeable herbalist would have you seeing and feeling  better results quicker. One herb working alone vs. a formula working together.

When you are looking at using herbs you need to look at what the herbs actually do. It is like looking at an old house that you want to renovate. You look closely at the foundation and what can be used over again and what has to be cleared away and made new. If the foundation is strong then half the job is done. Herbs because they have major and minor properties will go into the body and fix the major problems and then they will kinda run around fixing all the little minor problems. It would be like you painting a large room, then going back over touching up the trim and the spots you missed.

Sometimes, and this is where I differ from many other herbalists, you need to go the traditional route with your health challenge then start to build with the herbs and then go onto an herbal program. Let me explain. Herbs are very strong but because they are completely natural they will look for all the problems to fix in your body. As humans we like to wait until the 25th hour with a problem. Herbs sometimes will take to long and if you have a serious problem it may have to be addressed by traditional medication then addressed by the herbals.

I have always known where the line was between what I can accomplish with the herbs and in what time frame, versus what is being presented to me by my client.

The population readily knows Western herbs due to their availablity versus Chinese herbs which, even though they have a 3,000 year success rate are just coming into their own here in the West.   An herbalist who understands the many uses of Chinese herbs can be very aggressive when addressing many health issues.  When you combine Western and Chinese herbs you have a combination of well over 2,000 herbs to formulate a program.  The Chinese view our bodies differently so the herbs take on a different energy. Western and Chinese herbs both support the body in different ways, Western will support the organ while the Chinese herbs support and then have the ability to change the chi (energy) of the affected organ. Some of our organs are meant to operate cool, while others operate warm or hot. When this energy flow is interrupted it is helpful to have the ability with the herbs to change the energy (chi) and revert these organs back to working condition.

Follow the diagrams below. Diagram A shows by the X the problem is in the liver. The client feels tension, pain and discomfort in the neck and shoulders. Notice the arrows going upward, this is called by Chinese terms - Rebelious Chi- simply meaning the energy is going the wrong way. It is being driven towards the head area. Since the liver is the organ that handles the emotions of anger and resentment (Please see Did You Know) you know then that the energy is strong and painful. Most likely a visit to the health food store would prompt you to buy a bottle of Milk Thistle (Silymarin), good choice but not as effective as if you chose to combine it with the Chinese herbs. Chinese herbs, which would also contain silymarin  would cool the liver down, which then the body would on it's own direct the energy downward (Diagram B) and then the body can eliminate via the colon and bladder. Some people prefer or it is necessary to intervene with colonic irrigation.

Chart A

Yes this was hand drawn by Linda Laskowski

Chart B

When Chinese Herbs are applied the energy is driven downward so the body can then eliminate it through the proper channels.

So was this one.

  • Do I treat herbs like drugs?
Though herbs are food and not drugs, the same respect needs to be given as one would give to prescription or over the counter medications. The rule of thumb is, if you are feeling better on the herbal formula, increasing the dosage isn't going to make you feel better, faster. Most herbs taken in large quantities would be no different then eating different kinds of food all together. Most herbs should be taken at least one hour before or after any prescription medication.

  • How many herbs should I take and for how long?
When using a new herb, begin with a recommended dosage and observe how your body reacts to it. If you do not receive the desired result, consult your herbalist and he/she will either decrease or increase the amount. When herbs are used for restoring health, amounts will need to be five-to-seven times that which is required for maintaining health. Depending of course on the ailment and the severity of it, approximately three months of sustained high dosage is usually recommended and required before the body is repaired. Sometimes it takes a full year for reparation to occur so that a person goes through all four seasons. The science of Homeopathy teaches that it takes one month for every year of illness for the person to REBUILD the body. (Dr. Jack Ritchason, "The Little Herb Encyclopedia")

  • How soon should I get results?
It's impossible to give a set answer. There are many factors involved. The severity of the problem, the persons, assimilation and digestive system, the number of herbs taken, and the particular problem. However, some problems like constipation and blood sugar imbalance will usually get excellent results within a day, while someone with cancer or arthiritis may not feel any difference for weeks.

  • Can I quit taking my chemical drugs?
"Herbs are slow and safe" Don't ever quit taking drugs you're dependent on. Many people have gradually decreased drug dosage and frequency with the use of herbs. We always strongly suggest you consult your doctor before increasing, decreasing or halting any chemical drug that is being prescribed for you.
