How Aggressive Are You About Your Heathcare Choices?
This is an article I wrote for the May 2005 KCWellness Magazine:
Recent events surrounding Terri Schiavo started me thinking about how aggressive her parents have been about her life and her health. Regardless of how you feel about the circumstances, you have to admire the tenacity of her parents. They have left no stone unturned in their quest for their daughter. The question I have for you is how aggressive are you in your own healthcare choices?
I had a client back in Michigan, his name is Fred. Fred has MS and diabetes along with a hole in his heart that at one time required surgical intervention. Fred is a very aggressive businessman so he treats his health challenges in the same way, leaving no stone unturned in his quest for good health. When diagnosed with his health challenges, Fred put together what he calls his "Health Team". This team consisted of medical and alternative practices. Medically, his vitals were checked and verified by his allopathic team members. Alternatively, he received colonics, massage and acupuncture. Fred challenged me to create the most aggressive herbal program that I could that addressed all his issues. To this day, as long as he sticks with his programs, he remains symptom free. If he allows fatigue, stress and poor diet to creep into his life, his symptoms start showing up to tell him he is out of life's flow.
Fred is a pro-active client. One who once the physical effects were under control, looked into the emotional side of his challenges, a side he was not pleased to get into. Whenever we have a client who is willing to do the "team effort", we have a much better chance for success. An aggressive client does not choose to spend time on fear and anxiety, regardless of the health or emotional issue. They are looking to experience life to the fullest, even if it means some speed bumps along the way. They want to move past them and get to the root causes of their issues, they want to grow, this means changing the physical, mental and emotional energies of their bodies. A client can profess to want to be healthy but if their energy is saying the opposite then we are at a standstill.
The body has the innate ability to heal itself, given the right conditions. These conditions can include herbal formulas, acupuncture, chiropractic, massage and many of the energy modalities available. While medical intervention is necessary in some cases, where surgery is eminent, most do very well with their medical part of the team on the sidelines, monitoring as their bodies are allowed to do their magic and heal.
Once you acknowledge your fears and anger then you can make the commitment to yourself to move past this into the new and healthy you. When the student is ready, the teacher will show up. Put your health team together after some research. You will probably find, as thousands of our clients have found, that colonics, professional-grade herbal programs, acupuncture, chiropractic, massage, energy work, meditiation / prayer, exercise and diet modification can and will improve the quality of not only your health but your life.
